The Moselsteig Trail is “Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2016”!

Dear friends of the Moselsteig Trail!

Every year, Germany’s hiking magazine “Wandermagazin” awards “Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trails” in the categories Trails (long-distance hiking trails) and Tours. An independent jury made up of hiking experts has checked out the different long-distance hiking trails and nominated five trails for voting. Already two years after it’s opening, the Moselsteig Trail was nominated in the category Trails (long-distance hiking trails), and the audience could vote for it until end of June 2016.

The Moselsteig Trail is “Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2016”!

“Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2016” are selected: 41 percent of the 22.162 votes elected the Moselsteig Trail to “Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2016” in the categories Trails (long-distance hiking trails).

The winner will be presented the award on 3 September 2016 at Europe’s largest hiking and trekking fair, the “TourNatur” in Düsseldorf.

The jury’s reason for nomination:

“365 km, 24 legs and the Moselle itself setting stage - the queen of drama, castles and wine. The list of cultural and culinary highlights of the Perl to Koblenz trail is endless. Roman roots, European neighbours, antique buildings as well as Moselle-typical steep slopes with terraced vineyards, bold castles, wonderful half-timbered towns, venerable churches and monasteries - what a well-balanced hiking composition! The Moselsteig Trail is a certified Quality Route Wanderbares Deutschland and is ideally complemented with certified day circular tours (Side Trails). The excellent bus and rail connections at all points and the outstanding internet presence confirm that this is one of the heavyweights of German hiking trails.”
